The Inkslinger
The High Desert Branch of the California Writers Club publishes a monthly newsletter called The Inkslinger. All HD CWC members are invited and encouraged to contribute articles, stories, poetry, quotations and anything they have written to the editor.
Our 2023 - 2024 Editor is Richard Zone. All correspondence should be sent to [email protected].

submission guidelines
Each month we look forward to new articles, short stories, events, and poems. Submissions may be sent for consideration with these guidelines in mind: send your submission typed in an MSWord document within the email or as an attachment; choose font size 11 point in Arial; no need for double spacing; and, be sure to proofread your work before hitting the “send” button.
Send to: retired [email protected].
Deadlines are always the 23rd of each month.
While the writer accepts moral responsibility for his/her words, we request that the submissions for this newsletter – that goes out to a general audience – keep these conditions in mind. Any photographs must be in a jpeg format. Be sure you have written permission to use the photos if they don’t belong to you.
The length of the articles and stories should not exceed 600 words, although in some cases, can be longer if arrangements have been made in advance. Regular columns that appear are written by members who retain all rights. Their opinions are those of each individual author.
Have you been published recently? Won an award or contest? We would like to recognize you in The Inkslinger. Your name and writing achievement will be highlighted. Send along a jpeg photograph of yourself and a short bio, and we will include the information as space permits.
April is our annual Poetry Month when The Inkslinger focuses on the creative poets in the club. Submit your poetry 30 days in advance of the regular due date, if possible. Poems are also published throughout the year as they are received. However, as with stories, not every submission is guaranteed to be published.
