Membership - How to Join
YOUR LICENSE TO HAVE A GREAT TIME!
Guests are encouraged to attend up to three meetings without charge to see if the California Writers Club is something they would be interested in joining.
Fees and Dues
The club's fiscal year runs July 1 to June 30.
New Adult Member: Branch Dues – full year $65.00 If joining between July 1 and December 31 of any year. Pays your dues through June 30 of the following year.
New Adult Member: Branch Dues – partial year $42.50 If joining between January 1 and June 30 of any year. Pays your dues through June 30 of that same year.
Renewing Adult Members: Branch Dues – $45.00 Renewing Window: July 1 – September 30 each year. Pays your dues through June 30 of the following year.
New or Renewing Student: Branch Dues – $10.00 at any time. Pays your dues through June 30 of either that year or the following year, whichever comes first. Applicant must be a full-time student at an accredited school and be 23 years of age or younger.
Dual Adult Member: Branch Dues – $25.00 At any time. Pays your dual membership dues through June 30 of either that year or the following year, whichever comes first. Must indicate Primary Branch:

Membership Information
There are three categories of membership: active, associate and supporting.
Both active and associate members are eligible to sit on the central board of directors and enjoy full benefits and discounts offered by the state organization.
Active membership is accorded those writers whose work is in print and meets some minimum criteria. There are no limits to the number of active members in any branch.
Writers who are not yet published, but can show work in progress, may be given associate membership. In any branch, the number of associate members must not exceed active.
Supporting membership is for people who are interested in the writing craft, do not meet the qualifications for active membership, and the ratio of active to associate members in the club is such that our branch cannot accept a new associate members. (The number of associate members cannot exceed the number of active members.)
Qualifications: Active Membership
Fiction, Nonfiction or Poetry
Have a book published by a publisher of standing within the past ten years, or have a book currently under contract; or publication or acceptance within the past three years of three stories in a periodical or periodicals of general circulation.
Photojournalist
Generally the same as for fiction, nonfiction or poetry, except material submitted for consideration should contain photographs and text of evident quality.
Playwrights
A writer of stage plays, screenplays, radio plays, television plays, or videos, must have had a publication, performance, production, or production-in-development within the past 10 years.
Literary Occupations
Editors, feature writers, columnists, or regular bylined reporters may be considered eligible for membership, provided the work is the writer's professional occupation.
Self-Publishers or Electronic Publishers, whose material has been published under their own imprint, will be judged at the discretion of the branch accreditation committee. The material will be judged on: Professional presentation of writing style and graphics, and plans of distribution.
Associate Membership
Members who have not yet published. Also, non-writing literary professionals, including agents, booksellers, publishers, producers, directors and book illustrators.
